I just purchased a Victron IP65 12 volt BlueSmart charger. I want to keep it plugged in and permanently connected to a 200ah Lifepo4 12v battery. The battery is connected to a 12 volt backup sump pump. What would be the best settings for the charger to keep the battery healthy but ready in case our power goes out? Our power rarely goes out but I would like it to leave it connected all the time.
Can you share the details on the make/model/technical specifications of the battery?
It’s usually best to avoid charging LiFePO4 batteries to 100% all the time.
If the battery has a spec for “Storage” voltage like 13.2V that you could use as the setting for the charger (instead of 14.2V bulk/absorption and 13.5 float), with an equalization voltage of 14.2V that is applied perhaps once a week at most.
Another way to do it would be plug the charger into a timer that runs the charger once a week for an hour at normal settings (eg 14.2/13.5).
For curiosity, is this a dual-power sump pumps, that normally runs on 120VAC with a big motor, and little 12VDC side that comes on only if a power failure.
The battery is a Litime 230ah Plus. It has a 230ah rated capacity and 200 amp BMS. It has a charging voltage of 14.4 v absorption voltage of 14.4 v. The specs don’t mention them float or storage voltage. I have a main pump that is 120vac and separate 12 v backup sump pump. The battery is connected to the 12 volt backup sump pump
The BlueSmart Charger standard Lithium profile will provide 14.4V
When the AC power fails and returns, usually the Charger will start up again, bulk charging the battery. Hopefully the LiTime BMS deals with it appropriately.
