Problem with the newly installed 30 amp charger to bring battery up to 95% SOC or so and keep it there regardless of the small cycling loads (DC fridge, fresh water pump, vacu flush toilet, audio system, LED cabin lights, etc) that are on it intermittently including when we are at the boat and on shore power. The float and storage Smart LiFePO4 Victron pre sets of 13.5 VDC aren’t keeping battery charged enough (dropped to 13.3 VDC and 29% SOC Thursday morning ) and waiting for it to drop to 13.1 to re bulk (absorb mode?)isnt working so I have changed those to 13.8 each Thursday morning. Will see what the SOC is this morning. Thinking of setting float/storage to 14.0 - 14.2 if we dont have at least 95% SOC this morning . What do you think?
Re-Bulk method= I selected “Voltage” vs current just thinking that would work better as it kicks in when the battery voltage drops below the “re-bulk” voltage for one minute (like the fridge kicking in at 4.4 amps). Question= There are no voltage settings for bulk or re bulk so is the absorption voltage setting that determines charging voltage? (I am in the demo mode on the app here at home and not connected to the battery so assume the selections I am seeing are the same as they would be at the boat and connected to battery via Bluetooth?)
Absorption Duration = I am selecting Adaptive absorption as it sounds better for the way we are using the battery? Not sure about this one vs the Fixed absorption mode?
Maximum Absorption Time = Not sure about this one but does it matter what it is set at if it will automatically exit the absorption mode when the absorption voltage is reached (absorption voltage being the bulk voltage?)
Repeated Absorption= Was 7 days but thinking setting to every day or every two days? I know the battery might not like to sit at 13.8 / 14.0 volts or more for days or weeks but that seems like the only way we can have a 95%+ SOC battery whenever we get to the boat and disconnect from shore power and want to sail for the day. Your thoughts?
Power Supply Mode = Set it at 13.8 or 14.0 VDC and assume it will bring the battery up to this voltage (if its not there when doing this) and then just “sleep” there until the voltage drops by 0.1 volt or more due to any load or when returning to dock with a battery at less than at 95% SOC it will just charge the battery back at the amp setting we have set it to(30)? Would this mode both charge to 13.8 and function as a power supply at the same time?
Thinking of setting the bulk (absorption) to 13.8 or 14.0, and the float/storage to the same 13.8 or 14.0 that might solve our problem vs the Power supply mode ? Would appreciate your thoughts on these.
Thanks for any advice!
