Victron charger not charging my battery

Hi there.

Up until last week I had a leisure battery on my van that was connected to a Victron IP65 12/7 ‘Blue Power’ charger. All worked wonderfully.

I replaced the battery (to a Victron Energy 125Ah Supercycle AGM) though as I wanted more storage and my old battery wasn’t holding its charge (it was about 10yr old).

After adding some extra parts to my setup (a solar panel and charger and a shunt) and also replacing my mains cable in that was very perished I wanted to test everything.

The mains in goes to a single pole consumer unit which then goes to the victron charger and then onto the battery. When I plug the van into my garage mains the charger shows power. It goes through the charging process but when I look at the shunt info there seems to be no current coming in.

Is there a way to test the charger or is the charger not compatible with the battery?

When the van is getting power from the solar panel it charges back to 100% throughout the day.

I’m also currently replacing my split relay so I can’t test if that shows current coming in when I start the van engine.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Here’s a screengrab of the info I’m getting from the smartshunt.

Have you set your shunt up correctly so all loads and chargers are connected to the shunt not the battery. See the FAQ linked below.

You may also find the other FAQ on shunts useful in setting up the shunt.

Yes, everything is wired correctly and going through the shunt (via a bus bar). All the positives go straight to the battery and all the negatives go to the busbar which goes to shunt.

I get a read out from the shunt when the van is getting a charge from my solar set up. It’s just when it’s plugged into the mains.

Post a couple of screenshots from the IP65, status and history page.

It’s the older ip65 that doesn’t have Bluetooth connectivity - so no data info. Just the sequence of lights as it goes through from test to storage.

It’s moving from bulk to absorption much quicker than it used to on my old leisure battery (can’t remember what it was but it was a basic lead acid leisure battery) and almost says it finished after a few hours (it use to be a 12hr process).

When I plugged it in last night the shunt was saying 67% charge with voltage as 11.83 and no current. An hour later exactly the same readings but the charger had moved from bulk to float.

Probably means you have a poor connection or blown fuse or similar between the charger and the shunt. The charger output voltage will be going through its cycle but not getting to the shunt.

Okay. Thanks
