Like the title says. I have Cerbo GX (mk2) on my boat. It is connected to internet with wifi (mobile 4g). Connection works normally. Anyone has any idea, what I could try? I’m techie and been coding since 80’s and using linux from ~1.0 kernel so can try as technical approach as needed. VRM Portal - Victron Energy
It isn’t clear what the specific issue is.
Does it not download?
Does it download but fail during the update?
Are you trying the update via the local console or via VRM remote console, or the VRM update option?
Does your system manage a realtime VRM connection?
System is connected realtime to VRM. Image seems to download (data usage from wifi). I’ve tried the update from VRM → Device list → Firmware update, from remote console and from cerbo 50 display. All fail on different stages (percentage bar). I’m going to the boat on weekend, so I can SSH to the cerbo and check more details.
Do you have any mods loaded? Its worth checking the GX filesystem isn’t full.
No mods. Vanilla Cerbo. Free disk space 1152.8M bytes (remote console → settings → vrm).
What you can try, revert to the backup stored version on the GX and try updating again from there.
Failing that getting some logs would be helpful.
Hi @ToniBergholm running this command will produce the right logs:
cat /data/logs/swupdate/* | tai64nlocal
It might be that the actual folder name is a bit different. See here for more info:
Ps. From the information provided it looks to me like it started writing the new firmware (that is why the backup fw is reported as not available), and then failed during the download.
Most likely an internet connection issue since we have more than 10.000 systems running on beta versions and there are not many “me too’s” reporting here.
But - who knows! And the logs will help for sure!
That wifi has been solid at least for using it for remote work. Maybe the cerbo drops out from it somehow. I’ll get the logs late today or tomorrow. I can update the firmware from usb then also.
I´m currently running ~48 on a brand new install on a MK2. Freshly imaged it from venus-install-sdcard-einstein-20250128120635-v3.54 today, upgraded to ~48 without a problem right after.
Now when I try to go to ~49 it gets stuck during the download:

This also happens if I manually wget the file. It gets stuck at some point (~50%) of the download and I loose connectivity to the device.
If I download the file from another device it works fine.
Anyone else having this problem?
Update:
Tried it again after a reboot (which I had to do to get back onto the system). Now connectivity breaks down almost immediately:

I connected to the device via BT. It seems its working normally after that “crash” besides its WIFI connection. I can no longer get it to connect to any of my WIFIs I have available. A reboot will fix this, but it will happen again every time I try to download the swu.
Additional context:
I had the same problem with a pre ~48 release (I can´t remember which one unfortunately, sorry). Probably some earlier ~40 version. So I believe whatever caused this was introduced before ~48.
I´ll try using a network cable next to narrow down if this is a WIFI/driver issue or something else.
2nd update (sorry, the board wont allow me to add more responses to the thread…):
I now put a wired LAN connection on it. It uses the same router the GX is connected to through WIFI. With LAN I do not have any issues. The file loads without a problem. So my guess is there is something wrong with the WIFI driver. I can not download large files without the wifi stack crashing.
I’m having an issue on my new MK2. Node red UI will not run, works on production firmware. Watching the MQTT update, it feels like it get progressively slower as time passes, until the GUI & MQTT fail to respond. My older Cerbo works fine.
Hi all,
to update: indeed there is an issue with the WiFi connection on the Cerbo GX MK2. Problem was introduced somewhere during Venus OS v3.60 beta series.
We’re looking into that, thanks for the report!
Hi all,
The Cerbo MK2 wifi issue is solved per beta version Venus OS v3.60~53.
For Cerbo MK2s where the wifi no longer works, these are the steps to make it work again:
- update it to v3.60~53 or later. Using and sdcard, usb stick or by connecting an ethernet cable.
- power cycle it to make it work again. Just resetting/restarting is not enough.
Apologies for the inconvenience. (!)
For further details on v3.60~53, see here: Venus OS v3.60~53 available for public testing
A fix for a beta release, on a Sunday - color me impressed.
