Hi, I added a dongle to my SmartShunt to extend the bt range and just wanted some clarification on some settings. In the SmartShunt manual it says,
“The solution in such a case is to add a VE.Direct Bluetooth Dongle (ASS030536011) to the system, and switch off Bluetooth in the SmartShunt IP65. Be aware that the VE.Direct Bluetooth Dongle will not support stored trends, Bluetooth GATT service and the Keep SOC option.”
When I connect the dongle, it automatically mirrors the smart shunt and I can connect at an extended range. But the manual says “switch off Bluetooth”. The smart shunt and dongle seem to sync the settings and mirror and if I turn off Bluetooth in the smart shunt device and switch over to the smart shunt (dongle) device, Bluetooth is also off so I turn it back on to avoid any issues. Is there a correct way to do this or did I miss something. Thanks!
Are you connecting to the smart shunt without to the BT dongle plugged in to switch off its bluetooth?
I dont know if I fully understand what you mean, but before plugging the dongle in I was connected to the smart shunt and with the dongle connected I can connect to the smart shunt still as well as the dongle mirror smart shunt. Do I need to unplug the dongle, disable the blutooth on the shunt, then plug the dongle in again. It seemed risky as it looks like to re enable it if that doesn’t work needs to be via usb which I would need.
The ve to Bt allows you to reconnect and re enable the bluetooth.
Old forum post. The manual mentions the ve to usb i know.
Thank you, that did work. However for anyone looking at this in the future, if you added the smartshunt/dongle already, after your disable the smartshunt blutooth, you need to remove/forget the smartshunt/dongle (in the ios settings also) then re add and re enter the pin. It took me awhile to figure that out as it wasnt connecting even though it was showing.
Excellent. Thank you for sharing your solution experience.
