VE Configure: purpose of the external current sensor setting

The MultiPlus-II has support for an external AC current sensor (CT clamp). By removing a wire bridge on the terminal, the external sensor is supposed to replace the internal sensor on AC-in. But why do you also need to enable the “External current sensor connected” checkbox in the general settings of VE Configure. What is the effect of this setting?

I would like to know the answer to this one as well…

I found out that at least one effect of this setting is to increase the maximum value that you can specify for the “AC1 input limit”, or the “Grid current limit” as it is called in VRM and the venus GUI. Without this checkbox ticked, you cannot set a value higher than the “Maximum feed through current” listed in the specifications of the MultiPlus-II. This makes sense if you think about it.

From the test I carried out on my EasySolar it doesn’t seem to change anything actually.
I can’t say that the configuration of the CT clamp is well documented.
