"VE.Bus Error: VE.Bus Error 11: Relay test fault" when applying grid codes for the ESS mode

Good morning everyone,

I´ve got a configuration with the following elements: MultiPlus-II 24|3000|70, Cerbo-GX, 3 SmartSolar converters, SmartShunt 300 and a 120AH 24V battery.

The system I have has been working well until I´ve wanted to implement the ESS in the VEConfig software. To activate the ESS feature, grid code activation must be done. So when I activated the grid codes error 11 appeared. I´ve checked for possible cable connection issues but everything its allright (I also checked the other possible causes of the error Victron provides). Moreover, the system worked well till the activation of the grid codes. I´ve tried to configurate the system via VRM and it hasn´t worked either.

The system I have its located in Spain. Based on that I´ve tried both Spanish grid code and European grid code (none of them worked).

I would appreciate to know if someone has had this error before and how was it solved.

Thank you in advance,

Ander

So you followed the error troubleshooting through all the steps?

What is the outcome of the detailed diagnosis? At which step does the relay selfcheck get stuck

That’s because ESS forces the checks. The GX will store a more detailed version of the alarm.

Thank you for your response chrigu.

That was the error that the Cerbo-GX gave me. There was an error in the grid connection. The power strip connection was inverted, that was the reason of it. That error no longer appears.

Now that I´ve corrected that the good way a new warning/error appeared. “Grid meter not found (error 49)”

Moreover I go to the ESS menu and it shows there is no ESS assistant.

Thank you,

Ander

You need a grid meter in order to use ESS. Either the MPs internal measurement or an external one.

Did you load the ESS assistant? Or in general, did you follow the ESS manual?

Also, what does that mean exactly? Are you using a regular plug to feed the AC to the MPs input?

The thing is that the external grid meter is needed for specific applications. In my case the solar pannels are connected in the DC side and the loads are only connected in AC-out. The only input in AC-in its the grid. Based on what the manual says, for this kind of application the internal current sensor is valid.

When I installed the ESS assitant I followed the manual and the assistant appeared in VEConfigure.

Yes I am. The socket is far from the MP installation point so I had to use a power strip to able to reach the grid connecting point.

So the ground / neutral connection from that plug point is very suspicious. And the inverter is saying as much.

Did you check that the ESS assistant is still programmed on the MP?
Since the error did show up this means that ESS was active at some point.

I was cheking the manual again in case there was some error and without reinstalling the assistant or doing nothing different, the MP started working in ESS mode and the ESS could be seen in the remote console of the Cerbo GX.

Going to configure the ESS for my application now
