I’ve got a bank of 4 NG 200 24v batteries, charged by a Multiplus 3000 and a couple of solar panels + a MPPT, all controlled by a CerboGX, BMV 712 and BMS NG. When plugged into shore power the charging status vacillates between Float, Discharging and occasionally Idle. Is this normal?
I’m drawing power to run my 24v systems so I’m guessing that’s what’s causing the vacillation, but my old Heart charger didn’t have this problem - it seemed to step up the float amperage when there was a load.
The Multiplus will be maintaining a voltage, if your 24V DC load increases a bit, by definition the voltage has to fall a small amount for the Multiplus control to increase the current to the 24V bus. If the voltage falls a small amount the batteries will supply some load, so will be discharging until the Multiplus catches up. It may just be that the Multiplus is a little slower to respond so you see the discharging status on your battery. One possible improvement could be adding a SmartShunt as a DC energy meter on the DC loads sey as DC System and DVCC can take account of the loads, but I am not sure it will avoid this. I do not think it is an issue.
