V3.60 Boat View / Page - comments, suggestions and bugs

Also found the boat page, not listed in the changelog, its like a PC game where there are hidden treasures for the player to find.

Right! I didn’t have all the info available, and it was getting late.

But yes: there is a new boat page. And depending on what equipment you have it will adopt its look & feel. More information later!

Great to see boat specific features but “mph” seems odd for a main gauge on a boat. What’s the thinking behind that?

To have it all done at once, there are also small electric vehicles for example that use victron

I see, but shouldn’t it be in knots?

How do we access this new boat page, we would like to try it on our boat simulators.

As with everything display related go to settings, general, display and there is a button to enable the boat page,

Ah sorry, we hadn’t gone through the settings yet as assumed it was a different GUI! Thanks.

Just a suggestionfor Boat mode, gps speed can be a bit jittery, especially when there’s no clear sky eg canal and river cruising. Could the value be smoothed out? In my own code I average 10 readings, I’m sure you could improve on that!

Hello,
I just start to check the Boat view and found it interesting and plaisant to watch.

Just some value are not shown… do we have some information about how data must be displayed in the screen?

in comparaison

and

I Like it with the speed in the middle…
As I use to travel in slow mode with this kind of engines, the Boat view could also be more or less adapted…

And I use to create some dashboard… but with more basic design

Perhaps a version Offroad / 4WD could be introduced or cruise board …

Thank you for your job !!!

Knots is available in units settings

That is a good idea, or a minimum selectable speed under which 0.0 is displayed.

The trouble with averaging jittery gps speed from the GPS sender is when stationary it can average to a small positive value.

You can add RPM, motor kW, gear selector, there are others we havent looked at yet. Not sure why this section is called Boat rather than vehicle. Maybe we’ll be able to change the name and icon in the future.

A suggestion for an addition to the boat page is engine rpm if this can be found from an alternator regulator such as Wakespeed WS500 or Arco Zeus.

How do those values like rpm/power etc. get into Venus OS from the motor controller?

Asking because this is exactly what I want to be able to do on my (electric) narrowboat

(which has a Sevcon controller with a CANbus interface)

How do you select which parameters appear (and where?) on the boat page? What limits the number of parameters that can be displayed? In my case power in kW (and/or rpm) are far more important than speed, so this should be selectable as the central display parameter.

We are using NMEA2000 and SignalK with nodered to write to a virtual motor driver. If you add the virtual device in nodered you will see a list of parameters it will accept.

How do you get the data in from the motor controller? (I assume this has a CANbus interface?)

Another request – make sensors page configurable so Ruuvi only shows temperature not RH, which is usually irrelevant.

We’re reading data available to us on a NMEA2000 network / modbus or tcp/ip. We integrate alsorts of systems on board yachts and bring it alltogether.

What motor controller do you have?

Sevcon Gen4 – I don’t have any NMEA2000 gear or interfaces, just a Cerbo GX/Touch50 controlling the system which is running Venus OS (not large or node red, at least not yet…)
