Upgrade of an existing system + Feedback

Hello all,

Two weeks ago, a customer call me for a trouble on his Victron system. He asked me to expertise and to propose a mitigation.
What I discovered upon arrival shocked me (Electrical panels are shaky and not properly closed. Cable cross-sections are not respected, both for DC and AC, no safety devices, no fuses, no circuit breakers…).

The installation didn’t meet any safety criteria, and what’s more, it only worked for the lights and the electric gate. Since the solar panels with microinverters were connected to AC-IN, the battery was programmed to maintain charge mode so it was not at all an ESS system as Victron design.
Tthis customer was quite annoyed to have such a poor return on investment and not be able to benefit from the PVs in the event of a power outage.

In short, all this to say, installing a Victron system is fairly simple, but installing it correctly and knowing how to get the most out of it is a different matter…

Before my intervention :

After my work (real ESS, AC coupled on AC-OUT1 frequency shift for PVs control) :

I don’t claim to be the perfect installer either, but still, when I see the work of some so-called professionals with high costs, I am a little appalled…

I didn’t knock this professional in front of the customer, that doesn’t help, but I just did what Victron trained me to do: a well-thought-out, clean and safe job.

And you? Have you ever noticed this while walking past other installers? How do you react?

Best regards,
Patrick.

Good job on the fix but doesn’t look like enough storage to do a backup of whole house? Did the customer not opt for more? At least no one can put there hands in the consumer units now lol

@Daza ,

Thank you
Yes the customer is on the way to upgrade his storage capacity from 5KWh Pylontech to 15KWh Pytes.
He need to sell his US5000 before purchasing to me the Pytes V15.
But as it was the plan to upgrade the storage capacity, i integrated this into my design. He will only need to change the fuse into the load disconnector. Cable cross-section on the DC circuit is already prepare for higher capacity :wink:

Best Regards,
Patrick.

Where’s the earth to the battery!

@Ewky,

French norm don’t require it.
