I bought a SmartSolar MPPT 150/35 unit, and I want to hook it up to a 48V battery that has an active BMS installed (DGJBD DB24SF01). The BMS data can be seen by connecting it to a phone app using bluetooth.
The instructions that came with the battery only mention charging it at 58.4V, max 10A (which is typical for a 16s setup).
What settings should I put in the MPPT profile?
It depends, if there are no loads on the DC side you can just set the charging currentand voltages in the MPPT. If there are dynamic loads while loading you need a gx device and use DVCC to regulate the current.
Thanks. My panels will not generate over 10A, so I’m safe on that side.
But this being a managed battery pack, will the typical Absorption / Float / Equalization still apply? What values should they be?
It is always best to use the batteries documentation to set absorption/eq voltages/time. That’s what I have done all the time. Even when your manages BMS overwrites things it is always good to have safe parameters to fall back to when communication fails.
If your battery does not specify anything more detailed than the maximum voltage then start with something conservative between 56.8V and 57.2V for absorption and 54.0V for float. You disable equilisation and temperature compensation. Ghese are the default lithium settings if you choose lithium. The one thing to change is maximum absorption time, perhaps 10 minutes or 15 minutes at most. See how quickly the current falls at the end of charge.
