Smartsolar 450/200 connected to hydro generator keeps hunting and wont hold constant power

Hi, i have a 450/200 connected to a hydro generator, the generator is a 3phase permenant magnet connected through a bridge rectifier with a capacitor connected on the dc side to smooth the ripple voltage. It gives a maximumof 280vdc and about 800watts. Is there a setting i can change or is it just not compatible. I have used hydro generators with victron mppts in the past and had no issues.

The algorithm is designed for Solar not for Hydro. This is one of several reasons that MPPT’s not specifically designed for Hydro should not be used on hydro.

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply. I have managed to resolve the issue my reducing the max charge current. But I also figured out the charge controller was being controlled externally by the cerbo and it’s max charge setting was too high.

Kind regards

Yes, when the Cerbo reduces the current from the MPPT when the batteries are at full charge, then the load on the turbine is reduced. you need to make sure that it does not spin too fast on no load.
