Smart solar MPPT 100/30 battery output high. The Victron Bluetooth app shows output to battery at 12.40 volts but actual output tested with a multimeter on terminals is 16.5v this is the case with or without a battery wired up and after all updates. Any idea how to fix this or if it needs an RMA or what is going on? Battery charging settings are within range of my battery bank.
Check for loose connections and confirm your meter is accurate to start.
Post some more info. MPPT charge settings, battery type, how it is wired. Etc. Pictures are good.
I’m sorry I can’t figure out how to post pictures. I will try again later today.
photos added to thread. Thanks.
You have your MPPT in a VE.Smart network, this means that it uses the voltage reference of the VE.Smart network, not its own measurment.
If you have a SmartShunt, SmartBMV or BatterySense in the same VE.Smart network then this will be used as the reference. Otherwise another device in the VE.Smart network will be used as the reference at random.
This is to compensate for voltage loss over the cables. However, if theres too much resistance on the connection between MPPT and battery, or if its even a complete disconnect, then the MPPT will inevitably run into the output voltage limit. Which is what you measure now.
Look into the settings and see which device is used as the reference. Then figure out where the high resistance/disconnect is in your system.
That is making sense. Thanks for the info.
