Smart IP65 Charger 10A/12v not charging, switching between bulk and abs, after firmware update

Hi @guystewart

as per this post

Smart IP65 Charger 15A/12V not charging, switching between bulk and abs, after firmware update - #20 by necik

Im having the same issue with the 10A 12v smart-ip65 charger after the firmware update, was working fine and 5m later i did the firmware update and bang no longer working

Ive spoken to the place i purchased it from who want me to pay for return shipping to them so they can test it and possible start an RMA

Im not very keen on paying for postage to return a defective item considering im not at fault for the issue

I tried contacting my local dealer but they were less than interested on the phone, but i was advised buy place of purchase it can be returned to any Victron dealer for a replacement

Also finding it hard for the firmware not to cause the issue, within 10m of me using it then doing the update and reconnecting to the battery the unit had failed

Hi @Tomo951,

You’ll need to get the unit to the place of purchase or a Victron dealer for them to do warranty.

It should be accepted for RMA on the spot if it is exhibiting the same symptoms as described in that other thread.

Alternating bulk and absorption lights and 1A charging limit.

If there is some other symptom or fault it is not the same issue and they will need to do a bench test from the pre-RMA checklist to diagnose.

Hi @guystewart

Thanks for the quick reply

unfortunately the place of purchase is in a different state to me now

The charger has the exact symptoms as the post linked

i do have local Victron dealers but the one i spoke to had never heard of the issue & wasn’t interested in helping me as i did not purchase from them, but i was advised buy place of purchase i can return for a warranty to any of the Victron dealer network, i also cant wait weeks for shipping as i need the charger

WA SOLAR SUPPLIES was the local dealer i spoke to

They might take a bit of encouragement, but it should be possible to use the local dealer.

Next step I would recommend is filling in this form with all that info, including the name and contact details of the local dealer - Need support? - Victron Energy

Eventually that can be escalated to the regional sales manager if necessary and they can have a chat with the local dealer about how giving good quality of service for Victron helps everyone including them in the long run.

Apologies for the issues.

having the same issue with the charger bought 2022, which works fine so far. After firmewareupdate at 21.April 2025 my product shows same behavier as descript in several posts.
Victron energy statet in their posts this is a HW issue and is not linked with the firmeware update. Startet a warrenty request, will see how fast they will react here in Germany. Might be more causes upcoming soon…

I had a 15A IP65 charger that was less than a year old and lightly used. It did the same. Fault appeared to coincide with a firmware update.

I logged a fault via the Victron website Support pages and was referred to my local dealer but the query was monitored by Victron customer support. I had to pay for shipping the unit back. It was quickly tested, found faulty and replaced. I had to pay shipping for the new unit too but small price to pay for assurance that the RMA process works.

If your local dealer is unenthusiastic, log the fault via Victron’s website support pages.
