Hello, new to the forum and I have probably not read the instruction deeply enough for the Smart Battery Protect 220A.
Just installed a setup with 3 x 24V 200Ah NG, BMS1000 and distributors, 1500W solar
I had my anchor winch connected after the Smart BatteryProtect 220A (and after my main switch).
All was working fine until I used the anchor winch a bit back and forth (cleaning the anchor, so no big load on the winch).
The Smart BatteryProtect the showed an E3 and was dead, I had to remove it from the system to continue the sailing.
I have heard that the Smart BatteryProtect cannot handle the winch, but I would like to understand what goes wrong and why it broke, just so I learn a bit.
Electric motor start up current is usually 6 times or higher than the rated current. This is usually the reason for burning out SBPs with anchor winches or bow thrusters.
Besides the initial current, the motor creates a back-EMF when it stops and the magnetic field collapses, so that is going to head back through the circuit somewhere, and packs a big punch. Do you have a break-before-make relay/contactor in there? It might help somewhat.
Rough numbers, 2000W winch, 24V so about 100A rated, start up load 600A. You have 600Ah of batteries which are rated at 600A continuous, 1200A 10 second pulse and the BMS at 1000A continuous so you should be OK.
