Hi,
I have Skylla-TG 24/50 installed to charge two 12V 200Amps batteries connected in series. These batteries are only to supply the automation part of the CAT3516 diesel engine at all times. However, the engine has it’s own 60Amps alternator. I have recently came to this boat and been told that Victron charger must be turned off every time before engine is going to be started, otherwise the alternator fails (they have recently replaced it). To be honest I have never heard before you have to turn off modern chargers - in Skylla-TG instruction manual I see that there is mentioned that the output will shut down once current, higher than charging is detected.
Could some one shed light on that subject, please?
Many thanks.
