Dear all, I use a Skylla IP-44 to charge the house battery on my boat with a small generator, very occasionally. I did so today for the first time in years, as I had managed to drop the charge on my 200 Ah 12 V Victron Smart Lithium battery to the point where the VE BUS BMS turned off the load (long story - left my 500 VA Multiplus turned to inverter mode for months, inadvertently, instead of turning it off when I leave the boat as I usually do).
It turns out that I did not change the charging algorithm on the Skylla to #7 (Lithium) when I installed the Lithium system just over a year ago, obviously having decided to do it later, so when I saw the charging voltage going through 14.5 V at 60 A of current, I realised my error, turned off the generator, changed the Skylla setup charging algorithm to the generic #7 for Lithium, and turned the generator back on. It promptly put the charging current straight back to 60A (the maximum) and did not modulate this, despite the fact that the battery voltage climbed even faster than before, reaching 15.1V before the BMS shut down the charging just before I could get to the generator - at least it was gratifying to see the BMS doing its job!
So why did the Skylla not change to absorption, which it was supposed to do at 14.2 V? Is it because I have it attached to the rest of the system by a CAN BUS cable, and it was waiting for an external signal to switch to absorption? In the absence of advice, my next step will be to disconnect the CAN BUS cable and try again. The Skylla has the oldest possible firmware, V1.02, but, because the old firmware will not let it connect properly to my Cerbo GX, I would have to remove the Skylla from the boat and pay someone to update the firmware for me, so I haven’t done this.
