When installing a lithium battery kit and BMS on boats, we use a 300A smartshunt to monitor engine/generator batteries, such that they can be displayed, as there is no other simple way to do it.
The Lynx BMS monitors and displays the house battery voltage and current, and the installed 300a smartshunt has 1 or 2 engines connected to it. We do not feed current through it, just connect a 2.5mm2 cable to one of the negative posts.
There is one issue in doing this though. When viewing the battery, it shows the current and can drill down to the SoC. We’re not interested in any of this data on a start battery, and it can make it confusing for owners, especially as it is all zeros, and they wonder why it says “Idle” and the second connected battery says nothing.
I think this is a nice way to do this, but would like to be able to turn off all of this ancillary information. Something like a checkbox to show Current, SoC, etc. or maybe a configuration setting in the VC app, where it is set as a voltage meter only, similar to how it can be set as a DC Energy Meter. Setting it as an energy meter does not work.
The other downside is that the Auxillary measurement does not show in the device list, just the main measurement and you have to drill down into the main measurement to see this.
An enhancement for the future please.
