Ruuvi Tags only seen right after powering the cerbo back up

Recently updated Cerbo to 3.72, but it was usually not showing the ruuvi info from my 3 tags. I replace the battery’s on two that said they were low. (wow those were Big) Still showing a last updated the day I turned the Cerbo back on after having the cerbo off for a morning will doing other battery work. See the pic below, it was Thursday morning the cerbo was powered back on. My cerbo serial was after the mentioned problematic cerbo’s.
I even moved the cerbo from a 10-15’ distance to right underneath them in the basement. (just the tile floor between them now.) I am not seeing any way to force connect them or script a connection.

Ideas?

Did you check if the Sensors maybe have a new/different VRM Instance number now?

Check in VRM > Device List

Sometimes if I loose connection with mine I end up enabling permanent scanning, once connected disable permanent scanning. This is in Settings\ Integrations\ Bluetooth Sensors.

Another thought, do you have an older Cerbo from 2020 or early 2021, these work better with an external USB Bluetooth dongle. There is a section in the manual about this. The internal Bluetooth gets warm, the higher the firmware, the more processing that occurs and the higher the internal temperature which is why this can manifest as you update.

They seem to have the same numbers.

Settings\ I/O\ Bluetooth sensors Continuous scanning? That is On for me. Are you saying I should turn that to Off?

I just realized I have an older serial numbered Cerbo. Geez, you’d think Victron would have sent us a dongle once they knew there was an issue with our Cerbo’s BT. Maybe that is my issue. -Bill

On mine I enable continuous scanning and get a connection then turn it off to avoid issues with wifi connection to the router. If you do not have wifi connection issues then leave it on continuous.

There have been several posts where this has not been an issue for many years until an update. It is not any particular update as the internal temperature depends on where your Cerbo is located, ambient temperature, cooling air flow etc.

Indeed. Every update requires just a bit more resource and that eventually triggers the temperature event.
On the new UI, disabling animations can regain some lost ground.

I stuck one of my Victron BT dongles into one of the VEdirect ports on the Cerbo. Nothing changed.

You need to use a dedicated USB Bluetooth dongle

The VE.Direct to Bluetooth dongle does not provide Bluetooth to a GX device.

See here for more details;

I also use an external BT dongle with a short usb extension cable.

You can then place the BT dongle even in a better position if you want and the cost is < 10$.

I found this one on Amazon for $12 Bluetooth Dongle that worked as soon as I plugged it into the Cerbo

My Ruuvi Tags started reporting immediately. That was pleasantly surprising! -Bill

A day later they are still updating. It seems to be fixed. -Bill :slightly_smiling_face:
