I have my SmartSolar Charge Controller 100/50 hooked to a busbar and then to 2 12 volt LiFePo4 280 ah batteries. My question is about the rotary switch settings. The manual says it should be set to #7. I just realized mine is set to #4. Looking at the chart, I like the settings better for #4 because it allows my voltage to go up to 13.8v whereas #7 only allows it to go up to 13.5v during float. Is it OK to leave the setting at #4 or will it cause problems?
13.8v float is likely too high honestly. 13.5-13.6v is generally accepted as an appropriate range for float for LFP batteries. What is it you want to gain by floating at 13.8v?
Thanks for getting back to me. I don’t know, I just thought higher would be better. I will change the rotary switch setting to #7. Do I need to completely disconnect it from the system to change that or can I just do it at night with no solar input?
Thanks again
You can just change it on the fly. You can also change it in Victron Connect and that will override the rotary switch. I like to set the rotary switch as there is generally no need to change it. Floating too high can actually lead to issues like overcharging and could cause gradual damage to the battery/batteries.
