Remote Console appears to be loading, but does not load

I navigate successfully to the Installation > Dashboard page. I click “Remote Console”, a window pops out, a “Downloading” progress bar appears, it reaches 100%, and then a “Connecting…” page appears. This looks promising right up until the point that it says, “[4] Connected to VRM, awaiting device”, but then my hopes are dashed when, “[2] Device is not connected to VRM” appears.

See screenshot:

In this instance, this is due to a physical connection issue on my end, but all of the “Connecting…” and “Downloading…” pages, and the “Connected” message, give false hope. It would save time and faffing to avoid the false messages completely, and identify at the first step that “[2] Device is not connected to VRM”.

My installations do that when the GX device loses internet connection. I don’t mean to patronize if that was obvious.

The thing is that it would be better to find out at the START of the (lengthy) process rather than right at the end.

You dont need to open the remote console at all to find out. If the connection at the top of the main page shows

Last updated: Realtime

then the remote console works.

If it shows a time instead

Last updated: 5 minutes ago

remote console wont work

That may be true if you have VRM configured for realtime updates. But remote console can work without realtime updates configured.

OK. I’ll see if I can work out what that means.
