Quattro Firmware Update using VRM with BMS

Apparently there is an issue with updating a Quattro with a Bms can bus connected is this Issue still present if I use a direct connect Mk3

The inverter/charger is the heart of a Victron power system. Before continuing, make sure to fully understand each step. The first stage consists of 5 steps:

  1. The new firmware file is uploaded to the GX Device.
  2. The configuration is retrieved from the VE.Bus system.
  3. The inverter is switched off and its firmware is updated. Be aware that there will be no AC power available. Also the internet connection might be lost, in case the router is powered by the inverter. Which is OK, this update has been designed to remotely update an Off-grid system.
  4. After the firmware update is completed, the settings will be reset to defaults and, to prevent overcharging, the charge current will be set to zero amps, and then the inverter is switched on again.
  5. The internet connection will be re-established (in case it was lost) and the new settings template is retrieved from the system; after which it will be uploaded to your web browser.

At this moment the first stage is complete. Next you’ll need to open the provided file in VE.Bus System Configurator by double clicking it. The settings will automatically be converted to the new firmware version; and a popup will show in case anything needs double checking. When finished, close the Configurator, it will prompt to store the file.

Last stage: on VRM, go to Device List → Remote VEConfigure and there use the Upload feature to upload the settings. This will restore the charge current.

Sorry, i can’t answer the question but wanted to ask why you want to update the inverter? Rule of thumb is to not update inverters unless there is a problem or feature you need.

There wasn’t a question. Seems to be more of a copy paste from the actual VRM instructions and a statement.

No description of the apparent problem.

@WolfBarn
Please explain the error/problem you are actually experiencing

Do you mean a VE.Bus BMS, since that can cause issues with remote firmware updates. I had it happen once that i needed to remove the VE.Bus BMS since a MultiPlus was not starting again after the update, but that never happened again.

The unplugging during a remote update is mentioned on the Manual as a thing you are supposed to unplug… So not a problem per say just something you should do in preparation and process

Yes, im aware that this is what Victron recommends, so far it was only necessary once, or would have been. I guess depending on what actually changed in the firmware it might be necessary or not, so the rule of thumb is to always disconnect a VE.Bus BMS

Need at least V502 to have Gen warm up Cool Down

Asking if there Is a Problem BEFORE I DO IT

Hi chrigu

That’s the GX Manual why is it not in the Quattro Manual
