Planning a new system and some questions

Hello there,

After spendong almost a week on collecting information, reading articles and watching youtube im really getting enthousiastic about building a home battery and use Victron equipment to regulate everything.

The idea is to install:

  • 16Kwh battery DIY
  • Multiplus ii 48/5000
  • Cerbo gx to run DESS
  • VM-3P75CT Energy meter

What I currently have:

  • 35A grid input
  • Solaredge PV 3000 watt max ouput
  • Mini PV installation 600 watt max output

The solaredge system is installed in the attic where also the Victron system will be. Unfortunatly my Solaredge inverter is really old so APS mode is not availible. There is no other save way to connect the Solaredge to the output of the Multi then right?

Second question is about the small PV installation. It is situated on the roof on a ched that is about 20 meter away from the house and just plugged into the wall socket in the shed. The inverter is not connected to my network as it is oit of range. I monitor this system using Home Assistance and a smart plug that measures the wattage going through it. That plug is connected to my zigbee network.

How would I be able to get the data to the cerbo in this case? Is there any wireless solution that could work here?

Or do you think the 600 maximum watts will not really interfere with DESS.

I can’t answer your questions because I’m not familiar with the equipment you’re currently using. The lack of responses to the thread may be because you’re creating a bit of a Frankenstein system that nobody understands. A diagram of your plan may help.

You dont need any data in the Cerbo for grid-tied ESS. Just an energy meter on the phases. The multiplus will charge from excess solar or maintain the grid setpoint +100W or -100 watts, for example. DESS is completely different. It will charge and discharge based on the price of energy.

This is what mine looks like. I have 2x grid-tied 5000W inverters split over 2 phases. I am allowing the MultiPlus to charge with 30A from either the grid or its own solar MPPT. You can set it up how you want. The only data the Venus OS needs is the grid meter.

Good point, I just create a schematic overview of the ‘Frankstein’ system :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
