MultiPlus configuration

While I wait for a more complete installation, I’m using my Multiplus 12/500 as a backup DC power supply for a monitoring station in an area where the mains supply is unreliable.

Equipment:

  • Multiplus 12/500
  • Cerbo GX
  • Victron SuperPack 12V/60Ah battery

Overall, it works. I can connect to the Cerbo locally or remotely, using the VRM portal or the VictronConnect app. However, I’m very limited when it comes to configuring the Multiplus. In VictronConnect, when I go to the Multiplus settings, it says:
“This product does not support viewing or changing settings over remote connections. To access the settings, connect locally using an MK3-USB interface.”

Is that really the case? Is there genuinely no other method? Because the price of the cable, relative to what I paid for the second-hand Multiplus, is a bit painful.

The only setting I can adjust is the charging current. Since the battery can accept 30 A while the charger can deliver 20 A, it isn’t particularly critical at the moment.

Yes, the functionality in Connect is constantly being expanded. Victron is planning a complete switch to Connect.

You can still get full access locally using VE.Configure and the Mk.3 adapter, but you can download the configuration data via VRM, edit it locally and then upload it again. This is practically the same as being on site with an Mk.3. The downside is that if there are problems during the update, you are not on site and cannot intervene.

Small Multi units have technical limitations from the outset, though.

Thanks to both of you. I’d completely overlooked this feature (thinking it was for professionals who carry out lots of installations). I’ll study it in detail, but I’ll only make configuration changes while I’m physically next to the installation.
