Hi all,
I’m currently working on installing an auxilliary 12v system in my 4x4 which initially will include 2 x 100ah LiFePo4 batteries in parallel with a Victron Orion XS 1400 to charge them from the starter battery of the vehicle.
My question comes from looking at the wiring diagram from the Orion XS manual, which looks like this:
Note the cabling on the negative side of the starter battery, it’s cabled to earth, as well as directly to the load side of the shunt. If i’m to replicate this, I will need an additional run of cable for this ground. Because of the location of the batteries in my vehicle this is a relatively large cable (25mm^2) and a reasonably long run (6m+), so for me the thought was “do I need this?” as, on the surface, it seems I can achieve the same using the vehicle ground.
If I do this, the diagram would look as follows:
So my question is, can I replace the long run of cable between the start battery and the load side of the shunt with a connection via the vehicle ground? If not i’d like to understand why.
thanks!
Damo.
