Orion Tr 48|12 : 30amp

Before heading to the Sea of Cortez I installed a 48V LFP bank, dual inverters, along with 3 Orion Tr converters. I want to say all this is working very well and I couldn’t be more pleased. All 12V operations function well except my davit operation. With the old lead-acid batteries I ran the davit off a 15amp breaker. Now the 48V bank feed a common bus which supplies power to the 3 Orion converters, each with a 25amp breaker, feeding a 12V bus bar. The davit comes off the 12V bus bar with an 80amp breaker. The davit will not run without tripping its 80amp breaker. It has 6ga wire running the 25ft to the davit. Why does this not work? Thanks.

What’s the rating on the davit winch motor? It should be on a label on the side of it - or the make/model might provide some insight.

Is there a solenoid/contactor that connects to the motor to control it’s direction? What’s that rated for.

eg 12V and what’s the operating current and stall current? I suspect the start up or stall current is too high. I had a problem with a winch that needed over 100A to get it going when loaded. Your original 15A breaker was perhaps tolerant of the startup current.

I have 2 dc-dc isolated converters for my 48v system in my rv camper… Can you tell me exactly how to connect the input and output 6ga wire to what . Right now I have the both inputs connected to my battery distribution bus bars. I removed the house battery under the stairs and put 2 distribution bus bars there in its place, and connected everything that was connected to that 12v battery to make it think the battery was still there. But not sure where the output wire of the dc-dc converter goes at… and no one has answered me in the last 6 months now. CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE!

Sounds like you’re 90% there

Your new battery bank is 48V so the Orions also need to be 48V input.

Which you then connect to the 12V output of the Orions

Is that all i need to do for the dc-dc side of things. If so then it was more simple then I thought and now I’m ready to do the last part of connecting the ac part, and disconnect the converter part … Thank you :blush: soooooo much…

Make sure you have appropriate fuses.

Ok … got 300 t fuse, 30, 60 and 50 breakers and fuses.
