Orion smart 24/24-17 dc to dc charger

Hi, looking at the above hardware to charge my lead batteries @ 5.3kw from my lithium @10.6kw which is my solar bank, is it possible to do with this. Just using for backup lighting
Reading it may not be possible due to mixing chemistry of batteries- please any guidance appreciated

Hi @Smartblue
Yes you can do this. What you might find is that if you have a Victron system interfaced to your ‘Lithium’ for control, then the output of the Orion isn’t considered and could cause cycling at the top end of the LI charge.

I use a 48/12 (which isn’t smart and has only a flat V setting), set for a 2 hour stint via it’s remote port. That port driven by a GX relay, set for 9-11am (before the Li peaks).
Your needs may differ. And so might mine, so I routed the time-based GX signal via a Multiplus so I can add ‘special effects’ with Assistants if needed.

Thanks for response, appreciate, great news yes looking at this option as a reserve, come power dump, but also run my 12v lighting system in the house through a Vic step down.
I do have a Vic 500 smart shunt on the main Lithium but as a learner in this trying to work out the settings.
Trial and error stuff and hoping nothing goes bang!
