The Orion Smart Tr Isolated 12-12/18 charger installed in my VW T6 campervan stays on « Off » all the time and does not charge.
I measured the voltages at the engine battery terminals and at the charger’s Input terminals; they are identical: 12.4 V with the engine off and 13.3 V with the engine running.
These values should trigger it, as the start voltage settings are 12.7 V and 12.6 V for the start voltage and delayed start voltage, respectively, and the lockout voltage is set to 12.4 V.
In the VictronConnect app, the Input voltage is always 12.4 V, which is inconsistent with the voltage measured using a multimeter.
It really seems that the charger does not “see” the 13.3 V when the engine is running.
What could be causing this issue?
What do you see when you click on “why is the loader turned off?”
I see a message indicating that it has stopped because the unlock voltage has not been reached.
It makes sense, since VictronConnect indicates that it is seeing 12.4 volts, which is the programmed lock voltage.
However, although it indicates that it is seeing 12.4 volts, there are actually 13.3 volts across the Input terminals.
That is where the problem lies.
If I set the voltage values very low, I can make it think that the engine has started. However, it then does not stop when the engine is switched off, and will therefore drain my primary battery.
What cable cross-sections are installed?
There’s no issue with the cable cross-section: I’m measuring 13.3 V at the primary battery and, at the same time, 13.3 V at the DC-DC’s Input+ terminal.
However, at the same time, the Victron app is displaying 12.4 V.
That’s where the problem lies: the DC-DC isn’t seeing the correct voltage.
Indeed, the problem is caused by the DC-DC current sensor. I recommend contacting your dealer for after-sales support.
End of the story: the Orion Smart TR was unplugged for 10 minutes. On restarting, it correctly detects a voltage that fluctuates depending on whether the engine is running or not.
So it was indeed stuck.
An ignition-switched positive was installed for engine-running detection.
