I have a marine system with a 24v house bank and 12v starting bank. Have just switched to all 24v charging (solar, alternator, battery charger) and DC DC charging from 24 to 12 to maintain 12v start bank. Wired in a Orion 1400 to do this. Have a few questions for the community.
Not long after setting up and networking the Orion my (3 × 75/15 smartsolar) MPPT showed an error message in the app. The (error 66) message said I had incompatible parrollell charging. This is odd as the MPPT are charging the 24v bank and the Orion is charging the 12v bank (from the 24v bank).
When setting up my Orion I couldn’t find a default setting for my calcium start batteries so I set up one based onbulk/absorption 14.6v and float 13.3v however it was not clear how to set the tail current or other parameter for completing absorption.
When I log into the Orion, under trends, the memory resets each time I log onto the Orion. I. Used to seeing much longer storage on the other de ices. Is this normal?
You cant put them into the same VE.smart network. On both MPPT and Orion its the output system that matters. MPPTs are outputting to the 24V system while the Orion outputs to the 12V. As far as VE.smart networking is concerned, these are two completely seperate systems.
Only if you use a GX device and VE.direct you could set the Orion as “charges other battery”. But solely for that its not worth getting a GX device
As for 2. do you have a specific question about a setting? I agree that the Orions manual isnt as detailed on the battery settings as an MPPT manual is, but the settings are mostly the same, so you could cross reference an MPPT manual
That also used to work on shunts, i think its a VictronConnect issue, but im not sure if its an actual issue or dpne on purpose
That seems odd if it’s normal. The MPPT give a very useful record of what has been happening going back a month and yet the Orion only seems to give the short window since you opened the app and interrogated the Orion.
