So i have mppt and orion xs (outboard alternetor) for charging victron ng batt , solar is working perfect and when i turn on orion then solar goes to zero and complete current from orion transfer to dc loads , nothing charges batt , i tried allmost every settings and nothing helped , also try to turn off mppt but allways same thing … positive wire from mppt and from orion is on same terminal and terminal goes to lynx , and also have lynx bms…
And idea ? Maybe orion have some fault on it. ?
If i have on dc loads 100watts for real , then i turn on orion from alternator if orion is giving another 100watts then i have 200 wats on dc loads , so complete curent 1/1 is going from alternator to dc loads …
It is hard to diagnose things remotely with so little info. Here are a few questions.
Do you have a GX device or is everything standalone.
When the MPPT is running on its own what voltage is being seen on the MPPT and the battery.
When the Orion is running what voltage is being seen on the Orion output terminal and the battery.
What currents are expected from the MPPT and the Orion and what size are your output cables to the terminal and then from the terminal to the Lynx. Have you checked that you do not have any loose connections.
I have gx , complete system , connections are fine , cabela are 25mm2 , everithing is oversized with cabels , i have around 14,5V on input and 13,5v on outpu , lifepo preset is on orion so this should be fine …
If you have a correctly set up system with Lynx NG BMS and GX device then the Lynx BMS sets the charging by external control and the Orion and MPPT follow these instructions, not their own programming. What I have seen on my boat (NG batteries, Lynx NG BMS, Victron MPPT and alternator controlled by Wakespeed WS500 regulator rather than an Orion) is when the battery is on float (voltage = 13.5V) and only the house loads are required it provides this by the alternator rather than the MPPT and if the alternator can provide all the loads then the MPPT shuts down. I would prefer the MPPT to have priority but that is not the way that it works.
What I have also found is that the default BMS settings for SOC Threshold (70%) and Repeat Absorption Interval (30 days) means that the BMS is nearly always asking for float (13.5V) limiting the charge rate. As I cruise most days I have set these to 90% and 30 days so that it goes to absorption (14.0V) much more often when the boat is in use and when docked the 30 days lets the solar give it an occasional boost.
