Hello I’m new to the platform . I have an arctic fox truck camper that I just put an Orion tri smart dc to dc charger and a 100/30 smart solar charger and 200w solar panels and a victron smart shunt and Lifepo batteries. My question is the fridge draws 13-16 amps on dc based on data from the shunt. The solar charger yesterday when I took the truck and camper for a drive was putting 8 amps in to the battery bank so that brought the draw down to 6 amps with the fridge on. The dc to dc charger was not contributing to the charge although it was on . All settings are for lifepo batteries and a smart alternator. The truck will charge another trailer I have with a red arc dc to dc charger at 12 amps . So I must be missing something . Any ideas?
With the engine shut down and ignition lockout settings the Orion is a lot more configurable than the Redarc and other DC-DC chargers. Most others, Redarc included, require the ignition positive wire to be connected. This forces the chargers on when ignition is on. Without this the Orion will rely on the settings I mentioned to be correct for your vehicle. Usually this works great but sometimes takes some fiddling with to get right. On occasion is very difficult particularly with smart alternators. If your settings are indeed correct, and you are still having trouble, connecting the “h” terminal on the Orion to ignition positive will force the Orion on when the engine is on just like the Redarc. Post your settings here along with year and model of your truck and we can help you better.
