I have 2 Orion 24/12-70 converters that have been converting voltage from 2 paralleled Tesla modules to 13.8v. Per my multimeter, each is receiving 21.87v and outputting 21.82v.Maximum amp draw on the system is under 50. The excess capacity will support a 12v A/C unit. They were both working properly a few weeks ago. I have no idea why they stopped. I also assumed they would have some type of failsafe to prevent delivery ofvoltage in excess the listed 15v max output. Any insight or troubleshooting guidance will be appreciated.
Non-isolated dc/dc converters can always produce over-voltage if the switching element fails short.
Failure of the switch depends on things like voltage spikes and temperature, etc.
Thanks. Do you know how to diagnose or repair?
remove from system.
On workbench test to see if input is shorted to output,: +<>+. If this id short in both directions with multimeter, then switching device is fried.
Thanks for your help Mike. I’ll remove and bench test tomorrow. I’m fed up with this project for now.
