No RCD (Residual Current Device (NL: Aardlekschakelaar)) needed with MultiPlus in a RV?

The Multiplus 500VA – 1200VA has an internal relay that connects the output N and PE (through Relay H) when there is no shore power. When the Multiplus ground connection is connected to the vehicle body, this makes the output “network” less safe to touch: a current can flow from the live wire through the body of a person and the chassis. I don’t see this in any of the wiring diagrams…

Am I mistaken? Any thoughts anyone?

I see 2 options:

  • a RCD fitted on the output side (safest)
  • the Relay H be disabled (this makes the output network floating, usually also safe enough imho)

regards,
Alex

Use the RCD!! you can’t be sure without frequent testing that a single fault has not developed on a “No Earth” system, that single fault can then provide the ground return for an electric shock on the 2nd fault.
