I’ve had a fairly simple setup for a while that has worked well until today, when I did some simple work. Now, the Smart BMS 12/200 won’t turn on (bluetooth module is off).
The system:
- Alternator → fuse →Alternator port
- Victron Lifepo4 batteries → fuse → switch → BMS battery port
- 12V loads on System+ port
- Smart BMV + Shunt
- Chassis as common ground
Today I wanted to shorten the battery → BMS cable, so I turned off all of the DC loads, pulled the Remote on/off plug on the BMS, turned off the battery switch, and shortened my cable. When I was done, I connected the cable again, turned on the battery switch, and re-inserted the remote on/off into the BMS. I saw the BMS bluetooth light come up for a second, then the BMS completely shut off. I cannot get it to show any sign of life.
- The batteries are fully charged and in perfect condition (can check via bluetooth and via the BMV).
- The connection from BMS to ground works (I’ve checked the fuse both visually and with a multimeter)
- I’ve checked the alternator and System+ fuses, although I assume even if these were blown, the BMS should still be able to turn on.
I’m not sure what to do, everything has worked perfectly until this incident. I’ve moved things around and performed a similar turn off/turn on several times without issues before. I would like to understand what if anything I did wrong, and either way how to recover the BMS. The manual doesn’t mention any procedure for this particular case. With bluetooth off, troubleshooting is very limited. I appreciate your help.
