New GX- Cerbo user UI not allowing Realtime connection to VRM - message about GX overload

I installed the new GX user UI and now I’m getting a message that the Realtime connection to the VRM has been disabled due to GX overload?

The message went away when I selected to use the old UI but the system is still not connecting to the VRM?

this seems to be a bug in the new GX User UI software, it;s a big issue that Victron needs to resolve ASAP…

Tell us more about your device, what is it, what firmware version are you using, do you have any modifications, 3rd party add ons, the large image with Node-RED, SignalK, gui-mods etc.

This only happens on either, older devices like ccgx or modified systems with dated drivers, shelly devices, complex nodered flows.

Almost always customisations.

Zero customizations! and GX is only 3 years old, latest firmware from Victron installed … the system is two MultiPlus in split phase, 24 volt home simple setup

Also sense I selected to use the old UI and rebooted the GX it still will not connect to the VRM in Realtime, but the Overload message is gone.

On third party stuff, strictly Victron components.

If you want to see from the VRM end VRM Site ID 256589 - added it back incase someone can take a look from the VRM end…
Now that it’s connecting I’m removing the ID from this post, not connecting anymore… only worked for about an hour

NO third party stuff, No complex nodered flows, no Shelly or any other devices connected, basic simple all Victron system. The one thing that I notices is the display on the GX was open and on the Brief page all night long.

As of now running the old GX UI the GX has magically connected to the VRM in Realtime…

Guess I’ll just run the old GX UI until a new version of firmware is available…

Well it’s not connecting Realtime anymore, it did for about an hour then stopped again???

So the message is that the Realtime connection was disabled, how do I re-enable it on the VRM portal? - after I changed the selection back tot he old UI and rebooted the GX it started connection real time for about an hour, now it will not connect in Realtime anymore. I did post the VRM ID so Victron could see the system from their end, but removed it once it started Realtime connecting again. If it’s needed to reset the Realtime connection to my instance please let me know?

So I just got to my physical installation and turned the check and auto update firmware off on the GX and rolled the firmware version back from the latest v3.64 to the saved version v3.42 - now the remote console will connect again, would not with the 3.54 version installed. as of now it still in not allowing a Realtime connection to the VRM Portal, will wait a while to see if the VRM will re-enables Realtime connect to by GX now that it has the old version of firmware installed. Time will tell but for sure there are no mods of other third party items installed on my system - Purely and only Victron vanilla Install.

I would stay on 3.64 it is unlikely version is the issue, we would see it broadly if it were.

On the current version go to settings → VRM and check the connection status, mode (should be “full) and last contact.

You can also check settings → general → support status, which will confirm if anything is modded or not.

Thanks Nick, if it shows Mods are on it what is the simplest way to get rid of them?

I really don’t care why this is happening, I just want it to go back to working again in Realtime. So is there an easy way to just delete any mods that had magically gotten on this unit?

Hi Nick,

I just loaded the v3.64 firmware and checked the support status tab and it is listed as unmodified, however the switch was on to enable all meds, I turned it off. Also I checked the status and it is FULL and the log interval is set to 1 minute, the GX is updating ever minute but still won’t allow Realtime connection…. How do you re-enable the Realtime connection flag?

In VRM, when you are on your installation dashboard, menu > settings > general and toggle on Realtime updates.

Thanks so much pwfarnell, toggling the Realtime update off then on started the Realtime updates again! For now the system is working in Realtime again, the last reinstall of the v3.84 firmware and then rebooting the GX and then toggling the Realtime switch in the VRM has for now got things working again in Realtime!

I think it’s important to note that there were no mods or third party installs on this GX and the new firmware confirmed that as unmodified! So there is some other issue that can cause this message about the Realtime connection has been disabled and the GX is in overload to occur, I was thinking through all this and it seems to me that the issue is regarding communications packet loads being to high to process, with that in mind I do have 4 temperature sensors connected to monitor the temperature of my solar chargers on my system, perhaps this added data load is part of this issue?

I am not sure it will be solved, it is an outlier case with no other reports that I can recall. I have a Cerbo GX monitoring 2 x Victron lithium batteries, Lynx BMS, Lynx distributor, CAN Bus alternator regulator, Multiplus inverter/ charger, MPPT, SamartShunt, 3 wired tanks, 2 Bluetooth tanks, 4 wired temperatures, 1 Bluetooth temperature, 2 bilge float switches, USB GPS receiver, USB Bluetooth dongle, both internal relays are enabled and a small amount of Node-RED code including about 5 virtual devices, have 1 minute data interval, access it locally and remotely via GUI2, and have never seen this issue.

As has been said above, set up a custom widget on the VRM advanced page for the Cerbo GX ( may be called Gateway as the device) dbus round trip time. This is normally in low single digit milliseconds, mine is normally 1-2ms with peaks of 10ms. At this cycle time the GX is not pushed for cpu resources.

I’ve got the same error Walt did.

No mods, just a straight forward system on v3.63, build 20250716100549.

It shows unmodified on modification checks.

I’m starting the update to v3.65 now to see if that fixes it.
