New DAH Solar 48V 5kWh LFP battery with Pace BMS shows up on MP2 as "LG resu battery on CAN-bus"

… but there are no apparent errors, the numbers look correct and it charges under control of the battery BMS. This is a low-cost 48V battery imported to the NZ market and has no local support. There are no means provided by DAH Solar to query the BMS (unlike their larger models) but I was able to fabricate an RS232 cable and use Gobel software to find the protocol listed as PYLON. I haven’t tried changing anything there and probably won’t unless DAH instruct me to. I’m not clear if this is an actual problem but I was expecting it to say ‘Pylontech’ or similar.

A total reset of MP2 settings didn’t change the outcome. The cable is a Victron CAN type B.

This is a simple power backup system for a single stormwater pump and running off-grid until it’s fully tested.

Third-party/unsupported batteries and BMS’s can do this, it is entirely down to the profile set on the BMS and how it announces itself. The name is mostly irrelevant as long as it is sending its control parameters.
It is entirely up to the supplier/manufacturer to help you with the correct settings, if they state victron support.
PACE is a generic, value for money BMS used by quite a few manufacturers so it does work, but it has its quirks.

Hello Paul,

there is an victron entry shown in the screenshot. Just use it.

Normaly it works with it.

Have fun

Marc

EDITED: Nevermind, I got tired of waiting for the vendor to answer. I used the Gobel version of the Pace BMS software and the standard 123456 password to successfully change the protocol to Victron and the MP2 detected that immediately without any fuss. The BMS info is the much the same (but with more detail now) but I mostly feel better if it didn’t display the wrong battery name and chemistry, especially one that had a recall.
As I said below the battery vendor is happy for the owner to change the protocol in the Bluetooth app for the larger-size batteries but provides no means to change the small model.

I just need their permission (to maintain the warranty), a password and preferably their ‘approved’ software. I couldn’t change the setting with the Gobel software I found online as “Write” is greyed-out.

The larger DAH Solar batteries (10 and 15 kWh) have Bluetooth access to the BMS and the battery user manual specifically mentions that the CAN protocol may need to, and can be changed. But that access is not provided for the cost-cut 5 kWh. I’ve sent an enquiry to the local vendor and will see what their response is. If I don’t get a good answer I’ll contact DAH in China.

Thanks for the comments!
