Dear Victron Energy Technical Support,

I would like to ask for your technical advice regarding the continuous operation of the inverter/charger installed in my motorhome.

My installation consists of:

  • Victron MultiPlus-II 12/3000/120-32
  • Two Victron Lithium Smart batteries, 330 Ah each
  • Victron external BMS
  • Cerbo GX
  • SmartShunt
  • MPPT solar charge controller
  • Approximately 740 W of solar panels

During periods when we are living in the motorhome, I normally leave the MultiPlus-II in the “ON” position so that 230 V AC power is immediately available whenever an appliance is used.

Could you please confirm whether this unit is designed to remain switched on continuously for several days or weeks under normal operating conditions?

I would also appreciate clarification on the following points:

  1. Is continuous operation considered normal and recommended use for the MultiPlus-II?
  2. Can leaving it permanently switched on have any significant effect on its service life, reliability or internal components?
  3. What is the approximate standby or no-load consumption when the inverter is switched on but there are no active 230 V loads?
  4. Would using AES or Search Mode be advisable in a motorhome installation to reduce battery consumption?
  5. Is it preferable to switch the inverter off when 230 V power is not expected to be used for several hours?
  6. Are there any specific ventilation, temperature or maintenance precautions recommended for continuous operation?

The unit is installed in a ventilated compartment and is monitored through the Cerbo GX.

Your question about the multiplus 2 being on alle the time, yes no problems, thats what its designed for, most users have them always on (mine are on 24/7, year round running all house loads)

Sí, el AES reduce el consumo en espera hasta casi nada, no, no es necesario apagarlo nunca, aunque si realmente no lo vas a usar en meses, puedes apagarlo. La mayoria de gente lo tenemos siempre encendido, si los consumos son ocasionales, lo mas eficiente es el modo AES. Un saludo
