I need to be able to turn off the inverting function through a switch that is independent of the unit. It needs to still allow the ability to charge through grid if plugged in.
I have tried this through the remote on/off function but this cuts both inverting and charging functions.
Has this been done before? Any help would be appreciated!
That’s “Charger Only”, or position 2 on the onboard switch. A Digital Multi Control has that function, as well as a connected GX device, or some models have the option to do that with an aftermarket 3-position switch, but without knowing which specific model you have, can’t say whether that option is available for yours. The user manual for your specific unit will have the answers!
The button has charge or charge/invert but that’s not what I after.
I want it to be on charge/invert all the time. (Selected mode) I just want to be able to kill invert via a button panel connected to an intelligent programmable switching module.
Reason being it draws aprox 4amps constantly. I want to minimise the draw by cutting the invert automatically.
If I do this through remote it cuts both. So what then happens is if the system is plugged into grid it won’t charge if the switch panel isn’t on.
If it’s the US-version MP-II 12/3k 2x120, then the old 3-position switch isn’t an option anymore, but just get a Digital Multi Control and you can switch it to Charge Only anytime you like, which turns off the inverting capability.
To be clear though, if it’s connected to shore power it’s not inverting in any case, so all you’re accomplishing by switching it to Charge Only is that it won’t automatically start inverting when shore power is lost.
They need to be independently controlled. I need to be able to kill invertor only.
Basically need to do the same as the voltage too low function. Completely cut out any draw from the invert function upon request and then turn back on when required.
It’s important I don’t do this through the invert/charge - off - charge switch
You will need a Mk3 , a laptop and “VE Configuration tools for VE.Bus Products”
from Software - Victron Energy
Then in the configuration, you will need to turn off the Virtual switch, and then load the 2 wire BMS assistant.
The inputs are aux 1 & 2, they are independent, and are available on one of the green connector blocks in the connection area of the multiplus 2.
I’ll have a look at this tomorrow. See what I can work out. I’ll jump on here if I cont work out. Have software, have cable, just need to find where it is!!!
The AUX input pins consist of the active input, with a resistor pull up to 12V, and a ground connection.
In setting up the assistant, I change the “temp probe” input to AUX2, so the inputs are AUX 1 and AUX 2.
I leave the default settings as open - this refers to the state of the external contact - either switch or relay contact. The open state turns either the charger or inverter function OFF.
So in order to invert, or charge, the loop must be closed.or the Aux active input pulled down to ground.
NOTE: Excessive voltage fed back into the active input can cause damage, as can ground loop currents. Connections to these inputs should be isolated from other supplies or ground connections.
Hope this is clear.
