Multiplus 3000/24 - Getting 50Hz output while on 60Hz AC supply

Hello everyone,

I am having the following issue and according to the manuals this is how it is but maybe there is a solution I haven’t figured out yet..

Using a Victron Autotransformer with my Multiplus while travelling in North America I can transform the incoming 110V shore power to 230V but the frequency stays at 60Hz (North Amrican Standard). Now according to the manual the Multiplus AC output frequency will sync with the AC input frequency as default.

I have a regular household fridge which runs on 230V/50Hz and is my only appliance which is not labelled as 50-60Hz so I would like to keep using it with 50Hz frequency but when I am connected to shore power I am getting 230V/60Hz in the house, so currently I have my fridge turned off while charging the batteries which is not ideal..

Anyone has any way around this issue - like with a virtual switch or something similar?

you can not change this, ac in frequency is ac out frequency, inpuy is connected straight to output

Does is not run on 60hz at all? Pump/motor will get warmer thats all normally

You could use a standalone small inverter just for the fridge.

Yes indeed!

I am not sure I want to risk running the inverter fridge on 60Hz as if the motor breaks I would have a very hard time finding a replacement part in Mexico. Temperatures are 35C+ during the day so it would be a disaster to lose the fridge..

I’ve also had the same thought on a small Ve.Direct 250 VA inverter just for the fridge but unfortunately finding a 230V/50Hz on the North American market seems impossible, need pick one up once I am back in Europe I suppose..

You can easily get one from amazon germany, usually they will send to the US also.

But the first thing the inverter does is convert ac to dc, so it really doesn’t care about the frequency. So call the service department of the manufacturer…

And pay the same (or more) for shipping on top?
And wait a few weeks?

You should be looking at a 500VA inverter or larger.
Refrigerators take a bit of grunt to start.

Choose them carefully.

Having tested 4 refrigerators on a Victron 350va invertor, only 2 of them (mostly) successfully started and ran.
The other 2 overloaded the inverter and didn’t start.

80L freezer, approx 60w running power, fail.
85L 2 door FF, approx running power 60w, pass.
270L 2 door FF, approx running power 120w, pass.
331L 2 door frost free FF, approx running power 100w, fail.

You have to grossly over spec the inverter to successfully start and run an ac powered refrigerator.

My current circa 2019 2 door 216L frost free FF has a rated power draw of between 55-70w. (it is some sort of weird inverter compressor that sets power use based on ambient temp).
Its peak power use at start up is about 1000w.
As measured by a BVM.

TLDR; ac powered refrigerators require grossly over speced inverters
