My inverter started making some strange, rapid clicking noises, which don’t seem to have a specific pattern. If I shut off the inverter, power it back on, it will go for about 30 minutes with no clicking, then it starts this nonsense all over again. If I shut I off and turn it back on again, it will stop clicking for about 30 minutes and then start back up again. Power cycling seems to always eliminate it for a while, but it comes back. This install is in a travel trailer, and has had no problems until now. It is a relay and almost sounds like Morse code. All firmware was updated to see if that might alleviate the issue. Still came back.
Sounds like some internal relay operation. Are you getting any stray voltages on AC in?
If the unit has been subject to vibration for several years, then there may be some internal problem developing.
Thanks for the reply, Mike. Ironically, the installation is fairly new, and the TT hasn’t moved an inch since the inverter was installed. The only major changes have been two new Fogatti inverter AC/Heat Pump units. However, they were installed a couple of weeks before I a long trip (did NOT haul the TT anywhere), and I didn’t notice anything strange at that time. I come back a month later, and it makes these funny clicks. I am going to try to upload a video, because that’s always better than trying to verbally describe it.
This is a very short clip due to upload limitations, but imagine it doing some random combination of these, with maybe a few seconds of pause in between the quick series of clicks. It just does this constantly.
