Hello, i have a Multiplus 2 GX, 40kWh battery, and 16kWp solar on ac, to make an ESS at my house. Programmed to discharge battery and keep grid current <0. Works fine, but when batteries are full and grid injection goes above 7500W, then the Multiplus fan turns ON and quickly meets its max (for around 7600W) although it should not be inverting/charging at all. Possibly the grid voltage reaches around 250/253Volts and creates more losses in the transformer ? Or the current sensor burden inside the MP2, possibly located near temp sensor ? Any idea, I would not want the fan to turn on so often (high injections occur frequently, house energy consumption is less than 1/10th of production) Thks !
Witch model Muliplus 2 you have and how are the 16 kWp solar connected to the Multiplus
It is a Multiplus-II 48/3000. PV is ac connected (ie directly connected to the grid, not the the Multiplus)
it seems similar to what observed in this post (which I have not see before): bug-report-fan-runs-at-max-speed-on-mp2gx-even-though-not-charging
There was a fan issue
You can check the voltage on your vrm portal (https://vrm.victronenergy.com/)
Thanks. I could not check if this is the case (of fan noise issue solved by rev07) for my device:
VE.Bus System
Product MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-32
Firmware version 2699502
Product id 2699
VE.Bus connection VE.Bus
Hardware configuration Single unit
Serial numbers HQ2315DRGUC
Phase 1 Master last update 2026-02-22
Could it be the case ?
I liked vrm much, but 3 weeks ago, I change router (using same wifi SSid and pass), but now the inverter fails to connect, even using the router that was in place. BT connection allows me to see, select my wifi, but it says ‘connection impossible’ whatever reboot I did. Possibly I assigned a fixed IP in the inverter or something, but I cannot see why it cannot be reset at some point. I fear I need factory reset, but then ESS config takes so much time.. Anyway, looking at history data, yes input voltage lies around 250V when injecting several kW..
Different issue.
Yes, unrelated issues, but this makes it more difficult for me to try upgrade firmware and solve issue #1.
Can you connect the Muliplus II GX with a Ethernet cable
Note: Wifi is case sensitive
I could connect the MPII to my PC using Ethernet, get remote console, and fix wifi - but only temporaly, it failed a few minutes later. Possibly because only 30% signal strenght ? Anyway, I could check for upgrades, and upgrade what I think is the GX, but could not figure out how to upgrade MPII to v357 (currently in v350 or 352, can’t remember). Is it possible using remote console and Ethernet ? I also activated HotSpot to make it simpler - possibly no need to unscrew the inverter lower part which is difficult to access for me. Thks !
I finally installed an ethernet cable and could upgrade the MP2 to V558. Unfortunately, the fan behavior remains the same. I really would want the MP2 to go idle whenever the export (measured by current sensor) goes above 3kW or so.. which happens most of the time during the day. I have an openwrt router on the lan, I checked that modbus TCP works, so possibly I could use it to force idle the MP2 (or switch to ESS mode3 ?) Would anyone have a python script to check export and set idle mode accordingly ? Thks
Have you look at Node Red on the GX
I use node red (at evening/night) and I can reduce the fan noise by changing (lowering) the “Maximum inverter power” (ESS)
Thks, I will give it a try, but in my case (oversized PV with >90% excess energy to be fed to grid), I just want full inverter power at night to avoid the slightest grid inport, charging around mid-day (ideally when inverters need to reduce power to avoid feed in power above contracted power) and idle the rest of the time.
