Hi Community. I was considering purchasing a Multi RS Solar to act as a UPS with battery and solar. I asked the dealer if it is suitable - response was: No. The Victron Multi RS (including Multi RS Solar) is not approved for grid connection in Australia. To legally connect an inverter to the grid in Australia it must be certified to AS/NZS 4777.2:2020 and appear on the Clean Energy Council approved inverter list. I’m not sure if this was an AI response. Does it sound right? It’s available to order from many dealers in AU. Thanks David
They probably thought that you also want to inject to the grid…
Otherwise, I don’t see why an inverter that is only drawing (consuming) power from grid when is used to charge the batteries can’t be used.
The certificate does not appear on the product page.so the information on that is currently correct.
For a pure ups the MP2 and MP2 gx are certified.
Thanks. Looks like all new models are not approved for grid connect in Australia e.g. 4k5 and 6k5. The marketing should be amended to say they are only for off-grid applications. It’s a shame as there are a lot of Chinese products with approvals that would be technically inferior to Victron. A Victron dealer has recommended a Deye Hybrid inverter.
I think so - it was a chat so assume it was using AI. It’s very unclear and a shame as Victron has such a good product with VRM etc. Probably our market is too small to justify certification.
Problem is they are not just offgrid for everyone. They can be used on grid elsewhere. I hear what you are saying, but the red tape can be a pain sometimes and is a local issue. As frustrating as that is for you.
That isn’t the issue. Certification can be a long process, also some authorities are more difficult to please than others. The RS originally had little in the way of certs, the last year has seen a big focus on getting it certified, so you are almost certainly on the list.
the 4k5 etc are also new so that starts another cycle.
