I was asked to help setting up a system round a Multi that had been on the shelf for ages and recently installed on a ship with no-internet access. I dug up my RS485 cable and went there. The system consists apart of the Multi of a CCGX, a solar regulator and a BVM (connected to a Lynx box) . I connected the CCGX to the multi and it started doing as it should, displaying the status of the multi, and the battery state. By lack of VE-direct cables I had to postpone connecting the rest. But after a while the inverter turned off and the CCGX displayed various #14 errors. I replaced the cable to get the same result. In the meantime the multi on the CCGX was replaced by “unknown” and unknown was switched off. (Though the inverter was on). I fired up VEconfig and I could easily access the multi, and could read that it was running version 19121NN. I tried to flash a newer version (as to my knowledge any version up to 19199NN should work anyway) but I was strongly discouraged to go on by VEflash , as it was not the proper version.
Any helpfull hints aivailable?
Update: I got the VEdirect cables and both BVM and Solar controller are nicely displayed alongside the “unknown” on the CCGX
CCGX runs the latest firmware ( I took care of that. 3.8n or so) I did look at victron professional and I don’t have my notes at hand but I am 99% shure that it was 159 I tried but when that didn’t work I tried something 2 versions or so higher than the installed firmware with the same result.
(I wonder why this subject is marked “solved” as it is far from that)
Absolutely. (I found this out myself). But luckilly after reading the FM I got enlighted on firmware versions and grabbed the latest firmware (1912209) for the vintage MultiPlus and flawlessly installed it with VEflash. I ran VEconfigure, again with no hassle. To find out that my firmware, though the latest aivailable did not support assistants, at least not ESS. So I forgot about assistants and entered the right parameters for the installation to find out that the Multi still is not recognised by the CCGX. It also added a funny but very inconvenient quirk, namely sometimes shutting down the inverter when you connect the CCGX or the MK4.
I tried restoring the old firmware on the CGX, I tried to install firmware with no assistants (but virtual switch) but the reaction of the CCGX remains unchanged.
It displays the contours of a multiplus named “Onbekend” and it does not display in the VRM hardware list nor can be added there.
Which puzzles me, as I had on board of my ship inverters that were even older (I don’t recall whether they still had a pilot flame ) and those did work with the Venus (which is eventually a CCGX without display) without ever giving trouble
All information you needed to update are in the links I posted above.
With FW 209 you should have some (but not all) assistants in VE.config (not VictronConnect!).
What FW is running on the CCGX? (Please post the number not “it’s the latest FW”).
The CCGX shouldn’t have problems to recognize a 19xx209 or 159 VE.Bus device.
(You need to disconnect the MK3!)
We even tried to swap the multi with another of the same age with original (136 or so) firmware and never touched by VEconfigure with the same outcome. I start suspecting the CCGX.
Installing firmware 3.55 for the CCGX changes the screen image for the multi from “ Unknownx to “off” but still no sign of a multi in the device-list. The good news, though, is that the multi is on apparently, and stays on with the VE bus cable connected.
Your CCGX seems to be one with the “newer” HW.
With 3.55 the Multi is not in the device list but with 2.18 it is?
The MK3 is disconnected?
What other components are in the system?
Please add a picture from the back of the CCGX where we can see the connections.
The multi was in the device list once when we first installed everything (with the original firmware of the CCGX). After I while we noticed that the inverter was off. Since then the multi never showed up in the CCGX again, regardless of which firmware installed on the both devices.
We only have one cable so connecting my old faithfull MK2.2 together with the CCGX is no option.
