im new to rv and solar. Done a fair bit of reading today but cant find a solution to this issue. Solar smart controller isnt charging the battery. It spends about 13 mins in bulk and absorb before spending all day in float even though the battery is depleted. I tested the battery terminals and they match the terminals going into the mppt. The only place it differs in in the app and it reads way higher around 3-4 volts higher. The battery was down to around 10 something volts and app is showing a peak at 14.5. Everything i see online says volt loss through cables or fuses but the battery terminals and the mppt terminals measure the same so doesnt seem to be any significant loss its just the controller itself. What am i missing?
If you also measure ~ 10V on the MPPT battery terminals, then it looks like the internal fuse is blown, although the MPPT is working. On the smaller MPPT’s this is an automotive style fuse that is accessible from outside of the case for replacement. On some MPPT’s this fuse is internal and very difficult to replace.
Update. After reading something about a on switch underneath and not seeing anything i started to test fuses, fuse at battery was good and read to test the fuse underneath next to terminals. Well there was nothing there giving me my culprit. Found the removed fuse and plugged it in. Controller now has power even with no solar, voltages now match across all 3 points. And soon to be discovered i believe the charging will follow. I appreciate you mike for commenting this after i found my fix didnt expect such a fast reply at night but your suspicion was correct! Thank you so much for giving my sanity back.
