MP2 does not charge with all available excess solar power

Hi All

I have a Multiplus II 48/6k5/100, Cerbo GX MK2, Lynx shunt, VM-3P75CT and 2x 16kWh batteries. Solar inverter is connected on AC-in side.

With ESS assistant.

Lately I noticed that system is not charging batteries with all available solar power (as you speak, charging ~1000W, while still returning 3000W to the grid). In the past, it did work fine afaik.

I made 2 changes in last month: upgrade from a 48/5k/70 to 48/6k5/100 and I added a 2nd 16kWh battery. Not sure if related.

I have double checked all settings.

If I select “Keep batteries charged”, it will charge with 5000W (the limit I put in system)…so no limitations.

I have check all (ESS) settings 3 times by now; re-installed ESS assistant…not change.

What am I overlooking?

Thanks

Hans

Hi Hans,

What kind of batteries did you use?

Did you use the smart shunt or can bus as battery monitor?

What ccl did your batteries allow?

You will “see” the PV power at the grid meter and these values are correct?

Did you checked the grid meter configuration with Victron connect? Grid meter, 3 phases, vector?

L1 at the grid meter is L1 at the multi?

ESS settings at cerbo, regulation over all phases?

Hi DirkW, see below:

What kind of batteries did you use? LiFePO4

Did you use the smart shunt or can bus as battery monitor? Lynx Smart Shunt, I am pretty sure I have configured it as such, but I cannot find the setting back to verify…

What ccl did your batteries allow? Is this the max current allowed, as configured in the JKBMS? Or does Victron have a CCL setting which I overlooked?

You will “see” the PV power at the grid meter and these values are correct? Yes, correct

Did you checked the grid meter configuration with Victron connect? Grid meter, 3 phases, vector? Yes, 3 phases and vector

L1 at the grid meter is L1 at the multi? Yes, L1 grid meter == L1 Victron

ESS settings at cerbo, regulation over all phases? Correct

Attached a picture…later in the afternoon, charge current goes up to expected levels, but first hours, charging remains way too low, while there is excess solar power (yellow = solar, green is battery). You can see that till 14:30 there is excess solar power, but battery is charged with only 1000W (or less)…and then charging increases to 3000W (which was a limit I had specified in ESS)…I don’t understand why this throttling is happening, especially at lower SOC.

Did you use a CAN bus LiFePo4 battery?

Under System-Setup at the cerbo GX you will find 2 setting for the battery.

In my case the settings are set to automatic or Pylontech.

What ist the CCL value of your battery a the time solar power is not used?

I re-installed ESS assistant, problem seems fixed (since 1 day). Thanks for the suggestions.

I am a bit at loss here…My ESS worked fine during last few days; all excess solar power was stored in the batteries till 100% SoC was reached. Starting in the morning w/o any delay.

Today, same problem again as described in my first post.

System does not charge with all available excess solar power. Its should be able to charge with ~3000-4000W, but it is below 1000W.

Battery temperatures/MP2 temperatures are fine (below 25C).

Below some graphs.

Yellow line is excess solar power (also measured by the VM3P75.).

Green line is charge power to the battery.

The weird thing is, around 16:30, system starts charging as expected, using all excess solar power. This also happened last week.

What is stopping the system to start charging with all excess power immediately - in the morning?

During summer this is not an issue, by during the autumn/winter/spring. I do want to store all excess solar, as I do need it during the night.

Any suggestions how to debug this?

The Lynx is in control, the JK-BMS is only for emergency (atleast that is my intend)

PS, I have 2 batteries of 314kWh parallel, but the master/slave communication is not setup yet.

No DVCC enabled.
