MPPT RS 450/100 tracker difference

Hi,

System: 2 x Multiplus 2 3000
Cerbo Gx
MPPT RS 450/100
4 x Pylontech US3000C
8 x 675W Q Cell Bifacial

I had this system installed November last year at another address. From start the MPPT 450/100 would not use both trackers at full capacity at the same time. It is connected to two strings of 4x 675W panels in the same direction. You could get something in the line of 2500W from one tracker and 55W from the second and the moment the first one went down to 40W and the second to 2400W.

We did everything we could think of in terms of updates and settings, but without any difference. That MPPT was one of the models that could be swapped, so we did. When we connected the new one, we got a total of 4300W from the two trackers (nearly the same), without a lot of setting and updating and it never missed a beat.

Then we moved and a few weeks ago, the system was installed at the new address and our trouble started again. It is just the same, one tracker at a time. We did updates and checked settings, but nothing changed.

I hope there’s someone who can give a few tips.
Kind regards

It is hitting a battery charge current limit?

May be, but I don’t think so. Settings as on Victron Pylontech data sheet. If that is the case, then it must be the BMS from the batteries. It doesn’t matter if the batteries are 50% or 100%.

Do all your batteries register in the Gx? None offline? The CCL shows 4x37A

Do you see the Charge Current Limit - CCL is 59A?
59A x battery voltage is probably what the mppt is producing.
If i assume the battery is at 52v
59 x 52 is 3086w so seems close to what you are describing.
Are there other loads at this time?

The CCL is dinamic. The next two photos was taken right now (early morning before the sun is at peak).

I understand that is changes that is normal.

So now you need to look at your data and compare when it is throttling and work out if it is related to a lower CCL and load.
From what i can see in your posts, your battery is at 90% so won’t need much charging, by the time the sun it at peak, it will not beed to produce much as the charging will be done and your loads are low.

That is something I cannot do.

I set set battery minimum SOC high because of the problem. If I set it lower, I need grid to charge the batteries. The maximum I can get from PV with or without loads, with or without batteries on 50%, stays the same at about 2400W on either on of the trackers.

And the charger isn’t set to lower amps in the settings?
It is being throttled somewhere.

I’m not sure. I checked, but did not see where I can change much on the charger. On the inverter side, it is working very well, just not from PV.

I have seen the charge amps get set lower in settings. Had a laugh.

If you talk about VE Configure, then it is 35A in both inverters.

No on the mppt itself.

You need to choose a lithium profile to remove the temperature compensation there. (Yes the system is bms controlled) but it still needs to be done right.
Does the ve config side have lithium batteries checked?

Regarding your post here: MPPT RS 450/100 tracker difference - #8 by Pretorius

Re: ESS #1 and ESS #2.
I believe you are coming from a long period of time when your batteries didn’t have the chance to fully charge, right?
Also you have BatteryLife active (optimized with batterylife), right? And because of the above, the active SOC limit is very high.
Therefore the consumption from the grid while still charging the batteries from solar.

Anyway, because the way the MPPT firmware is designed, up until the SOC will be 100% and battery’s CCL zero, you won’t see a balanced tracker situation.
And in this state of BatteryLife, you will see the MPPT being limited by the battery’s CCL.

Yes, VE Configure has lithium checked.

OK, so what do you suggest?

Well, thanks. I checked the settings on the MPPT and it was set for lithium. I changed that, but there’s not much difference. The batteries is full now, which means that it is not the best time to check.
