Hi, I am just starting out and have a question about placement of an Orion-Tr 12/12-18 in relation to the battery - I’m installing it in a transporter van with a 100ah lithium battery. I am replacing an older non-lithium auxiliary battery that connects to a electrical system and have also added a solar panel.
The easiest spot for the charger is next to the electrics and above the battery, which sits in a battery well at floor level (back corner of the vehicle). However the manual says “Mount close to the battery, but never directly above the battery to prevent damage due to gassing of the battery.” There is no further detail about distance to avoid problems with gassing or how to interpret this. I’m thinking I could put an angled cover over the battery well so that any or most gasses escape on the side that is furthest from the charger (approx 20-25 cm away) and drill a couple of holes through the cover for the cables to go from the battery to the charger.
Does anyone know of this is sufficient, safe, etc. The alternative would be to move the charger away from the battery and electrics but it will be a bit painful and messier.
Thanks Nathan
