Recommended fuse location on Orion dc dc charger output side

Victron recommends fusing the output side close to the battery being charged rather than close to the Orion. To me it makes more sense to place this fuse close to the Orion since current is flowing from the Orion to the battery not the other way around. I my case I’m using a short (16”) run of 8 gauge to connect to a bus bar and my biggest concern on this side is that 8g …..so I’m inclined to put the fuse (or breaker) close to the Orion. Anything wrong with my logic?

The Orion output is current limited.

A battery on the other hand will dump hundreds or thousands of amps into a shorted cable.

Hence the recommendation to have the fuse close to the battery to protect the cable.

Fuses are usually installed as close to the power source as possible. So as close as possible to the battery, alternator, etc… This protects the device as well as the wire itself.
