Mopeka Universal Values Shown in Cerbo GX Are Off

I purchased the “Mopeka Pro Check Universal – Steel Tanks” directly from Mopeka. It is connected to the steel gasoline tank in my RV toy hauler. The Cerbo GX shows a reading in centimeters that is very different from the reading shown in the Mopeka app.

Here is what I submitted to Mopeka:
I have the Mopeka Universal Pro sensor attached to the bottom of my steel RV fuel tank (generator/fuel station). Here are the settings from the Mopeka app.

Tank size: arbitrary
Tank height: 18cm (actual measurement is ~7")
Commodity: gas (I’m assuming this is gasoline)
Tank Level Units: cm
Propane/Butane ratio: 100% propane (I don’t think this should matter since it’s gasoline)
Firmware: 0.1.33

I’m pretty sure the app is reporting the correct values with respect to how much fuel is in the tank.

The Cerbo GX is randomly seeing centimeter values that are way more than the actual tape measure measurements. At first, the cm was double what the Mopeka app was showing, about 32 cm, when the tank was probably about 99% full. Now the Cerbo GX reports 10 cm more than that, 42.9 cm, and that’s after running the generator for a couple of hours.

I was going to post a picture of the settings as seen from the Touch 50, but the Cerbo GX can’t connect to the Mopeka sensor at this time even though my phone, positioned within 3’ of the Cerbo GX, can connect just fine. The sensor is positioned towards the front of the tank, so I can’t get it any closer to the Cerbo GX. The Cerbo GX and the sensor are about 16’ apart and were communicating OK previously. The current lack of connection is a side issue, not the main issue.

I submitted a ticket to Mopeka and their response was more or less, “Not our problem, talk to Victron.” So are there any tweaks within the Cerbo GX that I should be changing to get a correct level displayed by the Cerbo GX?

I am having a very similar condition with my propane tanks and got the same response from Mopeka.

While I don’t have a solution yet, you may be able to increase your range but putting a USB BT dongle on your Cerbo GX. Just search for Victron approved USB BT dongles and get one off of Amazon. Mine dramatically improved once I installed it into an open USB-A port.

Certainly would be nice if Victron would weigh in on this.

Keep posting any results you get.

Thanks,

Brian

I have 2 x Mopeka on vertical 13kg (29lb) propane cylinders and agree that the cm values track, mine are 35.8cm depth when full. What I found though was that on the Cerbo, I got better low level agreement with the Mopeka if I set an empty reading of 3.6cm. The Cerbo level on mine only seems to change in 3% steps and I still have some usage after it reaches 0%.
