I want to install a Victron Energy SmartShunt IP65 Battery Monitor (Bluetooth) - Victron Smart Shunt - 6.5V-70V, 300 amp. The lithium battery bank of 2 is outdoors, outside the camper shell, on the hitching tongue on the frame of the camper. I understand that the monitor must be installed inside the shell because it is not weatherproof, according to the manual. My question has to do with WHERE ON THE WIRE to install the monitor. If the ground wire from the battery is, let’s say, 8 feet long from the charger to the battery bank, could the shunt be installed near the (indoor) charger end of that wire or does it have to be installed close to the battery terminal?
The location of the SmartShunt along the battery negative cable does not matter as long as the only thing connected to the battery negative terminal is the battery side of the shunt, and the only thing connected to the battery side of the shunt is the battery. Everything else connects to the system side of the shunt.
Thank you!
